The Supply Shelf
About The Supply Shelf
Published | Updated
The Supply Shelf is an independent prose guide to UNSPSC, the United Nations Standard Products and Services Code. It explains the classification, its four levels plus the optional fifth pair, its segment groups, its history and governance, and the ordinary ways procurement teams use it. It is written for buyers, suppliers, catalogue staff and anyone who has to read a UNSPSC code in a tender or a report and wants to understand what the digits are doing.
The site is not affiliated with the United Nations Development Programme, with Dun and Bradstreet, with GS1 US, or with any buyer, register or tender portal. UNSPSC is managed by the United Nations Development Programme since 1 January 2025, after GS1 US managed it until 31 December 2024, and the current UNDP codeset is the authoritative check for any live code. Statements on this site about codes carry their version and managing body so a reader can check them, and where this site describes a segment without quoting its number, that is because the published source checked at build time did not back that number here.
No page on this site determines a code for any reader, and the site offers no code-finder, lookup tool, search-by-product feature or recommendation for any tender. That limit is part of the editorial position, not a missing feature: a classification read in prose, checked against the current codeset, is more reliable than a tool answer quoted without its version.
No author names are published on this site, and no contact email is published. The editorial policy page states how guides are written and checked, the sources page lists the sources relied on, and the disclaimer page states the limits of general information.
